What is a KN95 FFP2 Respirator Face Mask?

A KN95 face mask is a respiratory face mask designed to stop 95% of particles >0.3 microns in size.  It is designed to prevent the wearer from inhaling any airbourne particles or droplets, particularly very fine particles or droplets suspended in the air which are called aerosols.

What is the difference between a Respirator Mask and a Surgical Mask?

A Respirator Mask is designed to protect the wearer from inhaling any airbourne particles or droplets and aerosols.  A Surgical Mask is designed to primarily protect a patient from the exhaled droplets of the wearer’s nose and mouth.  It can provide the wearer with some protection against larger droplets but is not as effective against finer aerosols.

A 2014 study by Aerosol and Air Quality Research Taiwan found that N95 type masks blocked more than 95 percent of all particles and aerosols, as expected,  but other masks were not as effective. Surgical mask were found to be around 40 percent effective.
